Ok in the last 5 years or so, I have replaced 8 radius arm brackets (combination of driver and passengers side) on 2 F-150's. One is my '83 4X4. The other is my brothers '95 F-150 4X4.
All of them break right at the mounting hole for the bushing. I have always used poly replacement bushings, and they have been replaced (both sides) each time a bracket was replaced.
Anyway, today I was looking at a new bracket from Ford (for '95 F-150 4X4, $25) and it measures @ 1/8" thick. Icompared it to the brackets for my '79 solid D44 (out of a bronco, soon to be installed under my '83 ) and it is alarming the difference. The '79 brackets are 1/4" thick and have alot more structural support.
I just wanted to vent and ask that you vote in the pole. Select 2 that apply.
Thanks

I've never heard of the brackets breaking or being a common problem. The 79 was a solid axle..little different. I have never had any problems with mine.
Well the odd part of it is that since I put 33's on my '83 the # of brackets has dropped to 0 in the last 3 years. but I replaced 2 in the 2 years before that.
I don't beat the crap out of the trucks, nor does my brother, but there are alot of pot holes (esspecially in the winter) and generally rough roads here in Maine.
Short radius arms suck!
I can't wait to get teh solid axle in, IIRC it's radius arms are 42" to te center of the bushings, while the IFS ones are 32" or 36".
