Hey guys, I was just wondering if you were good, bad, or marginal when it comes to your math skills. Personally, I can handle basic math. When the letters start showing up next to the numbers, I;m running away!!!
I do well with math, but it can be tricky to remember all of those little steps and those equations. Advanced Algebra can be tough, but try signing up for a course in Quantum Physics. I've never had that class before and don't intend to.
I remember in Algebra, I'd always wonder why we need to know stuff like imaginary numbers when we reach our thirties. Heck, what's a 16 year old going to do with imaginary numbers?Maybe it's so you can picture what your savings account would be like if you added a few "imaginary" 0's to the end of your balance. Haha, yeah right. I memorized some of that stuff for the tests and that was it.
Have I really needed to use what I didn't gain in my math classes? Nope! I don't know about you, but I'd rather pull out a tape measure then use a^2 + b^2 = c^2(Pythagorean Theorem) to figure out how high a ladder goes up the side of a house if it's 6' from the edge of the house and is a 30' ladder. Anyone else agree? Oh, and that answer would be 29.4' when rounded or 29.393876913398137178367408896471 for anyone that gives a crap! LOL.
I'm good at math providing that I am dealing in real numbers. I got an A in geometry and D's both times I took Algebra. I just couldn't grasp it. Although, when you enroll in college where I grew up, you take an assett test, so they can judge your progress and put you in the correct class, in math I scored between two classes, trig and calculus. Never had any experience in either.
I've been through algebra, then calculus, then multivariable calculus, then differential equations and linear algebra. I was really good at the last four until the years blew by. On the other hand, if I ever do need to deal with them, there are software packages that address the need quite nicely . As for the algebra, most of the useful stuff sticks to the ribs. If I wanted a minor in math, it's just two classes away.
yeah im pretty good at it. had a A+ thru algebra...currently have an A+ in algebraII. my dad is a math teacher...and his dad was a math teacher...so it kinda runs in the family :P
I used to be good at math, i'd have A's all the way through the year. Now its like anywhere from a A-B. Mess up on some of the tests, i'm always the one who's still sitting in the desk taking the test when everyone is done. It kinda bothers me, it like i'm loosing my memory or somthing.....
Nope. I hate math. Basic math I can do in my head pretty good. But I get ****ed when they try to teach me something I know for sure I will never need. Its over complicated and I will never use it so why learn it. Prolly why I had bad grades in hs and had to retake a course last semester.
