I have a problem with my F250 SD PS. This morning my service engine soon light came on and my truck started running very rough. Almost like when you run out of fuel. I tried changing the fuel filter and water separator. This did not make any difference. Checked the codes with a code reader. There are no faults. Added fuel treatment. No difference. I siphoned about 15 gallons of fuel out and added 20gal of new fuel. Now if I let the truck sit for about 30min it will crank and run fine but if I try to go for a test ride the light will come on and the truck will go back to running poorly.
Was it right after you cranked the motor? How cold was it? Mine did the same thing. EBPV kicked in right after the motor lit. Motor was real ruff, SES light came on then the motor died. It restarted and did the same thing again. Second time I let it warm up, then restarted it. Light did not come back on. Truck was not plugged in that night and it was 17 degrees outside.
It happens every time I start the motor and continues to stay on the whole time the motor is on. The motor will keep running it is just real rough and has no power. It has not been to cold hear, lows in the 40's. I have let the motor continue to run until the temp is in the normal operating range and it did not make a difference.
Well I tried to crank the truck this morning and it will not start. It will turn over and run real rough for a moment or two then die. I tried resetting the computer by disconnecting the batteries with the lights on and it made no difference. The temp out side today is 43F.
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Check fuel system, pump, filter etc. If it's turning over, and your getting aerated diesel out the exaust,(white smoke) it's safe to say the fuel is getting there. If not, the injectors are not firing. Main culperate usually is the Cam Position Sensor. If you change that sensor out and it still will not start, I'd head to the motor wiring next. Your earlier post stated that you did not get any codes. That's whats confusing to me.
Note: Have your batteries checked.

I am headed out to the parts store to get a fuel pressure test kit to verify that I am getting the proper amount of fuel and that my fuel pump is ok. I have not noticed any white smoke at start up though. I continue to check for codes and nothing is coming up. If the fuel pressure is ok I will try changing the CPS. As far as the batteries are concern they were changed about 4 months ago with Advanced Auto Parts Titanium series 1000CCA batteries.
That is exactly what happend to mine about 2 weeks ago. So far nobody can figure out what is wrong with it. It has a bad vibration from 1000 to 2000 rpms. I have been driving with overdrive off. it helps. I've had it scanned twice and doesnt find anything. By the way we both have the same amount of miles if that makes any sense. Is there anything Ford dealer needs to do to psd's at 108,000miles???

Well hears the latest. I could not find a fuel pressure tester that went to the pressure that the book calls for so I had to modify my compression tester. The fuel pump checked good. I went ahead and changed the cam position sensor, to the tune of $177, and it made no difference. Still will not crank.
mine starts fine but runs like major crap. did yours quite starting once u unhooked the batteries? I unhooked mine but never had the lights on. I dont know what to do
No, I tried to start it first thing this morning to see what would happen and it would not crank. I then tried unhooking the battery and resetting the computer.
Sounds like an injection problem to me. High pressure oil pump may be going out or even injectors gone bad. Had 3 injectors go out on me at the same time about three months ago. Similar symptoms. Check the injector wiring harness going underneath the valve covers to make sure they are not loose.
Well I had to take the truck to the dealer. I could not have it down any longer. It turns out that the drivers side harness for the glow plugs and injectors was grounding out on the valve cover. This was causing a voltage drop which in turn caused everything on the motor to not work properly but wasn’t bad enough to cause a fuse to blow. They changed the harness and the valve cover gasket and it is good to go. ($600 parts and labor) Thanks to everyone for the help.
