Water pump 5.0 problem installing
I have diagnosed the water pump in my '89 f-150 as being bad. I purchased a new water pump from a common parts store. napa auto parts. the motor is a 5.0 and if you are farmiliar with this aplication there are no bolts on the lower half of this water pump. I can not get my pump to seal properly to block. I am an experienced mechanic. I have cleaned the mating surfaces very well and i have tried using blue rtv waterproof sealer. i have had the pump on and off several times and cannot get a proper seal.. is there some kind of trick to this process that i would not see?? Thank you for any input.

I had the same problem with my 1991 cadillac, instead of blue rtv i used a gasket sealer called form a gasket type B. Im not sure if thats the right name, but maybe try something differnt that the blue stuff it worked for me and the new pump has about 6,000 miles on it now with still no problems. I also just did the water pump on my 1994 f150 with a 5.0 in it, it was still the factory pump it took me about 45 min just to get the old gasket all scraped off ,maybe u could also double check ur mating surfaces.
