Question Prep Work

Well I will make this as quick as possiable. I am going to paint my 91 (see sig.). I am new to the paint world but I do everything else so what the hay, try this. How do you properly prep the body. I have some small rust areas that, I don't think, do not go all the way through. I have some dings and dents also. My main question is preping the rust and sanding. Do I sand the whole truck down or just sand around the rust areas. Please help.

I also thought about painting it with awlgrip for some rugged durability. What is peoples opinion on that? Thank-you for all your help.

I'll make this a broad response and it's assuming you're not stripping the entire vehicle to bare metal.

1) Scrub with soap and water. You're going to a paint booth so don't be afraid to really scrub.
2) Clean with a grease/wax remover. Spray on and wipe off with paper towel. Don't just rub it around.
3) Sand all rust areas to bare metal.
4) Treat bare metal with a rust converter.
5) Spot repair with epoxy primer.
6) Spot with 2K primer until repaired area is level with old paint.
7) Block sand repaired area until blended into old paint.
8) Sand entire vehicle with 400 grit (600 if painting a metallic).
9) Apply sealer primer if necessary.
10) Paint
