when im in 4x4 sometimes when I turn a corner it feels like my front wheels are gonna fall off the truck,, wobbles so bad. When I left work the other day I was in 2 wheel drive and made a turn and my steering took a few seconds to come back straight so I stopped and checked the power steering and it was low so I topped it off.everything was fine after that.Well today I had to put it back in 4x4 to come up off of some ice and took it right back out,,it was locked in for a total of maybe 5 seconds.well on my way home went to make a turn and the wobble was there again and the steering took a second to respond. Now keep in mind this truck has a new steering box and power steering pump on it and the passenger side of the front axle was replaced just 2 months ago also. The truck has automatic hubs.It steers fine down the road under 50 mph but on the interstate 55 - 70 mph it shakes pretty bad and it pulls to the right.Any suggestions of what could be causing this will be greatly appreciated and many thanks in advanced
could be a bad u joint on the drivers side,or maybe the u joint right next to the diff on the passengers side.you said the truck was in 2 wd ,but were the hubs still locked?
automatic hubs,,the shifter was in 2 high but actually what it really feels like is the 4x4 is hanging up and not disengaging but it has to be more than that, ive owned several 4x4"s and have never felt a problem like this.
How long has it been since the tires were rotated?
If you look at them closely are they wearing evenly?
Look for cups in the outside or inside of the tread.
If you lay your hand on the tread flat across the tread and slide it to the front, then slide it to the back does it feel different?
Sounds kinda like an alignment problem.
If you have a steering stabilizer it may be needing replaced.
Also check your steering stabilizer shock bushings at the end where it u-bolts to the long tie-rod. When the bushings get loose or worn, it can cause this, especially with aggressive tires. Could also be a worn tie-rod end or worn rod-end that attaches to your pitman arm. It happens to me on my `86 F350s 4x4s when the stabilizer bushings get bad. Just changed a set the other day and stopped the problem. Cost a little over $2.00.
My truck does the same thing in 4x4 (to a much smaller degree) I've been told its the ball joints. $650.00 and they can fix it. I figure I don't use 4x4 that much, the tires are wearing fine. BUT its something else to look at. (and its easy to check)

My 2 cents is on those auto hubs
Why don't you just pull the hubs and try making a corner? (Not the bearing retaining nut, just the 4x4 part?) That will elimate if it is the 4x4 hanging up.
I think since you said it pulled right on the interstate I am still gonna say alignment.
It is hard to get a shop to actually set the alignment on a 4x4 other than the toe in. Most will just say it is within specs on caster and camber, which are so wide of a range that the truck will drive terrible.
The Ford garage is the only place here in town that took the time to do it right for me, but it did cost a fairly large chunk of change. I think it was about 850 dollars but I had some tie rod ends and a couple of ball joints changed also.
In the long run it was worth every penny to do it right though, because the tires last longer and the truck drives like a dream.
ok another idea came to mind,,went over to my neighbors last night after supper, had to make a hard left hand turn in his driveway to leave,,,when i did had a real loud grinding noise come from the front end,,,possibly the splines maybe??????
