I am a new member to FTE and I have a question about fuel mileage. I bought a used 2001 F-350 Crew Cab, Long bed, 4-wheel drive with 20k miles on it last spring. In the summer I was getting around 12-13mpg in the city and 14-16mpg on the highway at 70-75 mph. Now I am only getting aroung 10 mpg in the city and 13-14 mpg on the highway. After reading some threads I notice that my mileage is pretty low compared to others. I was wondering what I can do to get my mileage up or is there something wrong with my truck. I know winter blend fuel brings down the mileage, that explains the drop in the winter, but even the summer time mileage seems low. I have changed the air filter to a K&N, change the fuel filter, but nothing has helped. I installed a Superchips programmer and that didn't do anything either. I would say that my driving habits are normal. What can I do?, I was thinking about tank mods, and maybe trying amsoil.
Keep practicing , you will learn how to drive all over if this is your first diesel. I am up in Tunkhannock and we can get together some time and see what is hapening. Send email and i will contact you if you wish. Bill
Yes this is my first diesel, but what do you mean by learning to drive again? Do you see a big difference in mileage with winter blend fuel in this area?
Driving a dlesel is different than driving a gasser. They are like women at the K-mart and there is a sale. You just dont rush them. Go easy on the fuel pedal and you will see how it wants to run --- yo will have to get the "feel" for it. The fuel up here has a winter blend to "alleviate" gelling but it still happens. I add power service to the tank to slow down the gelling problem.
I will have to try driving a little easier. Its hard though, sometimes I just want to floor it and blow those gasers out of the water. I did just get back from Philly this weekend and using Power Service and driving 70-75 mph, I got just over 15 mpg. Not to bad I guess. How do you like you ATS flip controller? What kind of improvements did you see?
I have the same truck with tank mods, banks stinger, tymar, etc..
I average 11.5-13.5. The best I ever got was 16.5 highway. talking to others around here they get the same. sometime I wonder if people are scewing their numbers.
My friends around where I live tell me they don't get much better mileage than myself. I guess it really depends on how you drive. Did you notice any difference after you did the tank mods. I was considering that also.
I average about 15-15.5 city/highway combined. Best tank ever was 17.2 but I tend to keep my foot in it a lot. Gotta figure I never had a Hot Rod as a kid and now I have a big truck hot rod!!
