engine swap

does a 302 need different motor mounts than a 300 straight 6

Yep.

You need to torch out the towers for the I6 before the 302 mounts go in as well.

But then again, you're not wasting your time with a 302, but getting a 351 to make the swap worthwhile. (Swap an I6 out for TWO cubes? Come on...)

The 351 uses said v8 mounts as well.

(If you're going from 302 to 300, well props to you. [Can't answer the "?" about the older granny trannies...])

I have a 80 F-100 that used to have a 302. I went with a 300-I6 had to get mount plates for the 6. I left the org. motor mount plates the 302 had in place. The oil filter would have hit the drivers side mount plate if I didn't luck up and get from my buddy a 90 degree oil filter adapter that turns the filter down to clear the plate. This is what the two round gaskets you get in a kit fit. Before I got the adapter I wondered what they went to. This adapter makes for a cleaner engine at oil changes also you can pre fill with oil before you screw on filter.
