computer Q - EFI 302

What does it take to kick out the computer so that the engine runs in "limp" mode? The reason I ask this is because the engine was cutting out when gassing it from idle and when going down the road. I unhooked the neg. battery cable and pressed the brake to reset the computer and now the cutting out from idle is gone. Tomorrow after work I'm going to drive it and see if it still cuts out on the road.

If you recall my threads back in early January about the mechanics pouring ATF in the gas tank to "lube the new h.p. fuel pump", you'll know that I've had problems since. Would the ATF (1 to 2 cups worth) be enough to kick the engine to "limp" mode?

Thanks.
