Question Oil leak

My question is I think I have a rear main seal leak! Where it is comming from is between the eng. and where tranny connect. I use about 2 qt. of oil every 3,000 miles, does that sould like a bad leak? I use Mobile 5w 30 Drive Clean!

I would characterize that as a "bad leak" alright. Looks like you need to replace the rear main seal. Not a hard job if you have the rights tools and equipment to do it, if not it might be better to pay someone to do it. Better being based on cost and a warranty of some kind.

How much do you think it will cost me if I take it to a garage, cause I don't have the equipment to do it.

my guess would be 350 - 400 plus the seal ($20 -$25)

2 quarts of 5/30 every 3000 miles is not excessive by any means. Maybe try going to a 10/30 to see if it slows the leak down any. The general rule is more than 1 quart every 1000 miles is excessive.

just a thought... I had a leak in the same place and thought it was the rear main seal, but it turned out to be the oil pan gasket leaking in the rear. I did all the work myself so i didn't lose any money, but if you go have it done, its just something you should think about.

Try using a higher weight oil, 10-30, Mabey try some oil aditives I know they make some that you can add to oil to help slow leaks. Might help you out. But 2 quarts in 3000 miles is not excessive. I live on a ranch in South Dakota and we have a pickup that burns more oil than that.
