I just purchased a '04 F250 Crew 4x4 Auto and took the brake controller off of my F150 to put on the F250. I can't seem to find where it goes. All of the connectors appear to be in use. I removed the access for the fuse panel under the steering column and it should be right there from what I've seen in the past.
jsimonian...just dealt with that myself last week. Finally found it. If you look in the area where the electronic computer diagnostic port is.....then from there, look up under the dash about 15", it's there. Sort of behind/beside the radio area.
My problem was I thought people were referring to the computer diagnostic port as the port for the brake controller. Once I cleared that up and just looked further up under the dash I found her and boy it was a relief to finally see that bugger just sitting there waiting to be plugged in! Good luck!
Yeah That it is hide and farther away more than the older truck and I don't know why Ford did make it more difficult place to plug. But Glad I found mine without help. So, good luck to find that harness.
Just looked again...couldn't find. Any particular color I should be looking for? You don't happen to have a digital camera that could maybe point me in the right direction?
It is where they say it is. It is on the back (right) side of a vertical dash bracket and is attached to the bracket with a plastic bayonet fitting. It is a tough time to get it loose and the brake controller plugged into it. Take the lower dash cover off and look up and to the far right--then feel around behind the bracket--its there. You cant actually see it, but you can see the white plastic of the bayonet fitting poking thru the bracket. Then feel around for the rest of the plastic and there it is.
This cost me a dollar bet--told my hitch setup man it wasn't there.
Good luck, it is right where everyone is saying, course when you know where it is at, it makes all the sense in the world. Just to check, my understanding, if you don't have the tow package, you won't have the trailer brake plug. Does your new truck have the tow Package?
I think they come prewired for the brake control reqardless of the tow package. It is hard to find and even harder to plugin. Sitting in the drivers seat, about 4 o'clock and 12" from the steering column. I'm working from memory here, so I could be off by a half hour or so.
I guess I'll try and take it to my local trailer repair shop tomorrow and see if they can find it. It's bugging me though, so I'll keep looking & feeling.
If you have the 7-pole connector at the bumper, you have the wiring for the controller. Don't feel too bad when the repair shop finds it for you--Ford really makes it hard to get to it. As I said above, I lost a bet on this one.
