CLOCK SPRING sprung again!
ok, i did it, I attempted clock spring repair, I fought and I won. I too apart the column, remover the wheel, removed opened spliced soldred, and got it all back together.
wait,
my car doesnt have an alarm. that is what i said to the autozone guy who asked if it was my truck honking in his parking lot. I went out, and the van was silent. I drove home, and the cruise was eratic, turning on by itself (not good)
and then one block from home the horn sounded by its self, and then it whent beeeeeeeepppp beeeeep beeeep all the way home ! (iguess my solder job ssucked.) wife was way embarressed neighbors came to look, and dogs bakked... :
Any way i disconnected my horn (so i could go to work, and am driving it now. I want to know if anyone knows the part number of the clock s pring, There are several on ebay, wwith giid continuity, but no indication what ford their from, and their are several that look like they will fit, but i dont want to risk spending $ on wrong one, or big $$ on a new one. The part number would be greatly appreciated, also any known good cross reference info would also be good. thanks.
The part # for my 1994 Aerostar XLT is F3UZ-14A664-B.
The parts counter people know it as a clockspring wiring assembly. The part description on the box is "Cont Asy - Air Bag SLD".
Better part of $85.00 with tax last year in Florida. Dealer had 18 of these in stock, so they know they're going through them.
My Aerostar has cruise, airbag, and horn going through the clock spring wiring assembly, yet the new part still has "extra" connectors. I just used the ones that matched up the existing harness. In addition, there's also one wire that goes to the ignition key cylinder's "You left the key in" switch. That single wire is hook to a multi-wire connector, but it doesn't go through the actual flex cable of the clock spring.
The new part also comes "pre-wound" with a retainer installed to keep it that way until installation. Simply make sure your steering is *centered* and it's a drop in installation, once it's mounted, remove the retainer by pulling it off.
