No Horn No Cruise - Not Clock Spring - Where is Horn Relay?

No Horn No Cruise - Not Clock Spring - Where is Horn Relay?

So my Horn, door chime, and Cruise Control does not work on my 95 F150. My air bag light does not blink the 3-2 pattern. And on just a good hunch I replaced my clock spring tonight. I have learned that my hunch sucks and that after wasting $85 on a non-rufundable part my horn still does not work and I am 3 months over due for inspection. Before I ever went to do the clock spring - I checked my fuses or at least looked for the fuse. There is not one labled Horn (fuse). So any help is NEEDED, I am thinking towards my horn relay - but I have no clue where this is located. I have looked over this website but with no luck and checked out the recomended link

Please Any Help.

I have a 1993 f150 and it has no cruise, air bag or horn. There is a wiring, slip ring, under the cover on the steering wheel on mine. You can get to it by taking off two nuts on the underside of steering wheel and then center nut that actually holds the wheel onto the shaft. This is a coiled up printed circuit board type connection that has broken on mine. Let me know if this helps.I haven't found a replacement yet.So if you run across more than one let me know.

I don't remember seeing that on mine. I have 4 nuts holding on my airbag underneath there I have the two wires that connect the clock spring to the steering wheel controls and the other to the airbag. I think that your model steering wheel may be differnt. Please still any more help from anyone. Espically if someone knows where the horn relay is (I assume it's under the hood, but not sure where)???????

Found Relay

Ok....so no response on this thread, called ford dealership up. Found the relay 3rd from the front fender in the engine compartment box. Also there is a 30 amp fuse a couple rows over. Neither of these were my problem so I am taking it to a electric specialist this weekend.

Disconnect your horn and see if you have cruise control again. Explorers have been notorious for using a horn that grounds itself out, and I bet you have the same horn unit. The horn and cruise on on the same line from the steering column.

Most Ford horns are actually 2 horns. One will self-ground and short everything else.

I would disconnect the horn unit first. If the cruise comes back - you found the problem...

Yes - at the horns themselves. I'm not sure of the location on a F150, but on an Explorer, they are under the battery plate. Easiest way to get to them is through the fenderwell. Someone else may know if that is right for a F150 or not...

the best way to disconnect the horn i found was to either reach in front of the battery straight down and unplug them, its not straight up and down so you might have to pull to one side or the other. Or to have maximum room is to take the grill and header panel out so you can see it and get to it easilly. Also there are brushes on the internal of the steering wheel and they go bad.
Mine went bad and had no horn (dont have cruise). Ive got a custom steering wheel anyway so i just relocated the horn button, via Grant horn button.

I have a Ford dealer service manual for 1994 F series trucks and it says the horn relay is located " behind the instrument panel on the outboard (right) side of the glove box. The relay is mounted on the outboard attaching screw of the speed control amplifier". Hope this will help.

Does the relay in the engine compartment also apply to 88 models? My horn isn't working either, I took both off the truck, found out one is dead, the other was working. So I put the working one back on and still nothing. Could it of blown the relay before I found the bad horn? I think on 88's all three relays are the same, but I might be mistaken.

I hope by now you've solved your problem , but if you are still looking for ideas check your fuse panel for a cig. lighter or power point fuse. I experienced the very same symptons you described and the cig. lighter fuse was blown.

I found my horn relay for my 88 F250 under the dash, by the transmission hump at near the top of the throttle pedal, behind the ABS module. You'll see three wires going to it, two yellow and a dark blue one.

So don't know if I would call it a specialist but the guys I over payed to find the problem fixed it (redneck style). Turned out the horn was not getting a ground at the buttons, so they spliced the horn negative and patched it bolt below the air bag. I guess I should be happy the horn works, but for $100-$200 fix I sure would of liked to see if fixed the "right" way.
