You can use the p/s box al the way up to 79 and most of the chassis parts too. You will need the bracket off the firewall and the shorter steering column. There are threads that detail the swap so just do a search. It is best to just find an old tired 73-79 F-100 or F-150 2wd and get the disc brakes and power steering off a donor truck.
Mine is just a 2 wheel drive 71 custom...and I am a little older...lol...had the old truck for many years...but just now got it back in shape....running...a little body work, and new paint...but, man does she steer hard....About to have a little more time for modifications....so the power is something to look at....Thanks for your response....Highboy and Willowbilly....regards!
If you just want poer steering and aren't going to mess with the disc brakes right now, then look for another truck the same year. That way you can just change the steering shaft and not the whole column. There were various lengths of steering shaft and not all interchange in the 67-72 models. I prefer this method as you get to retain the original steering column. If you stumble across a bendix steering box that was used on the earlier models then you won't need to change the column. These are fairly scarce. I think they were only used into the 68 model year.
Are any of you with manual steering using radial tires? If yes, how difficult is it to steer it. I'm currently using bias ply tires on my manual steering 1971 F250. I know radials turn harder, just wondering if it is practically impossible to use them on the manual steering trucks.
no no it isnt that hard to turn it i got rid of the bias long ago and never looked back. it is a little stiff sitting still but once rolling even a little its easy. i run 31 10.50 15's.
Thanks for the response FRITOLAY. Since your doing fine with manual steering on your 4x4 with 360, I should do fine with radials. My truck is a 2 wheel drive F250 with the 240 I6 and 4 spd manual.
