Hello, I have a 1997 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer. It has the rear air, and the rear radio controls. Well, what my problem is, is that whether the heater is turned on from the main control in the front or not, the rear a/c - heater makes a knocking sound. What makes me sure that this is what is making the noise, is because when i change speeds (high, medium, low) from the rear control, it begins to make different noises. Anyone with any help, or advice, please reply
sounds like you have something in your rear fan...trash, an old post-it note, paper clip...whatever, something is bumping into your fan blades.
I have never done it before, but I am sure you can open up your center armrestand get to the fan that is inside. At least be able to see if anything is in there.
So I would start unscrewing stuff in that middle armrest until I could get my eyes on the fan. Not sure if my repair manual says how to do it or not...if you need more help, just ask.
GFRYHTSN, My wife's '02 does the same thing. It is the blender door in the back air that is making the noise, on the driver's side of the car, right beside the 3rd row seat. I'm actually back on this site after a year or two of listening to that thing clunk all the time. When it first started happening I looked on this site and found a technical writeup on how to fix it. Seems like I printed it off and then just never got around to it. It is on here though, so if you find it, let me know.
