Question Fuel filter question

I can't get my fuel filter hoses off the filter for the life of me!!
It's a '92 Bronco. I remove the clips, and tug!
This should be simple. is there more to this than meets the eye??

Thanks

On my 90, I just remove the clips as you say and pull lines off, replace filter, hook lines up and go.

I am not sure on a 92, but you may need a special tool to release the connections. It looks like an X shaped tool. You can also use it to remove other hoses on your truck (pressure)

When you squeeze this tool, would it press outward against the filter and hoses, separating them?
I tried to think of something that would work like that, but I don't think I've anything that would work.
Is this available at Advance auto, or somewhere?

I had a 96 Ford F150 and I remember I bought the tool at NAPA. I am sure other stores as you mentioned would have it.

The ends are tapperd on the X tool. You insert the tappered ends into the fitting and the insides seperate allowing you to remove the hose. (best way to describe)

I also have a 92 Bronco. I also have changed the fuel filter. After you remove the cilps, there is a tool that it used to actually seperate the lines. The package I got was called Air Conditioning and Fuel Line Disconnect Tool Set. I got it at a local shop. All the set is plastic things that push between the line and spout of the filter, to allow it to come off. It took me a while to do it cause you have to get it set right for it to come off.

Just go to your local parts shop and ask for a Ford fuel line tool. There are various versions out there, but they all work. The bottom line is that your clips are a backup to the "real" retainers. Inside the end of your fuel lines there are spring loaded locks that hold the line to the filter. The tool slips inside the end of the line and expands the locks so that they will slide over the ridge on the fuel filter tube. Kinda like a small piston ring compressor in reverse. The "X" type tool is actually designed with two different tubing diameters in mind. This is a common tool available at just about any auto parts chain.

Hope this helps.

I have a 96 XL w/ 5.8. I am in the middle of trying to replace the fuel filter. I have used 2 different tools (scissor type and plastic that fit around the line). One of the lines comes off with no problem. The other side I cannot get off. Any ideas on how to get a stubborn fuel line off? I'm afraid some of the springs inside are locked in place. The only way I can tell to get at it would be to cut the filter off and then try to use a small screwdriver to pry up each of the individual springs.

Anybody else run into this problem? Do you think it was caused by a previous owner who tugged at it and tried to get it off and messed up the fuel line coupling?

If you can get one end off, then push the tool into the other line to compress the spring and push away from the filter. At the same time pull on the filter and twist it like you are trying to unscrew a lightbulb. Sometimes the fittings can be a little stubborn.

Thanks for the replies.
I got the tool last night, and to make a long story short, I'm in the same boat as K4uwc. The lines are being just plain stubborn. the tool is going in fine, I can feel it snapping into place, or what seems like it's separating the inside retainers. But the hose still won't separate. I can spin/twist the filter, but it doesn't slide off.
I used the metal X-shaped tool.
Is one better than another? The guy also showed me a little plastic one, but I don't know how I'd get the leverage to get it in.

If penetrating oil and brute force does not work, I recommend the explosive of your choice.

I cannot remove the filter.
Neither can the shop.
They tell me the springs/o-rings inside the line are broke.
Is this right? If so, where do I find these rings?
