[updated:LAST EDITED ON 15-Mar-02 AT 08:02 PM (EST)]we have a small fleet of E450 buses.
and everyone of them has had problems with either the upper or lower ball joints going out and causing uneven tire wear.
and they are still new before the go out.
some where between 6000 to 20000 still under warranty.
so the dealer did fix it.
and it is on gas or diesel
I'm just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem.
Ford's "lubed for life" front components are known to fail prematurely. It would be nice if they'd give us a few grease fittings to prolong parts life & increase human safety.
I had the ball joints go on my 97 heavy duty 4x4 at 25,000 miles also. they did warranty them. Don't you have king pins on 450s or are they 4 wheel drive?
we have the van chasis E450's. they are only rear wheel drive.with the twin I beam. so there is no straight axel which would hold up alot better. I remember the king pins they held up great compared to the ball joints.
I ALSO HAVE AN E-150 I HAVE HAD THE BALL JOONTS REPLACED TWICE. THE FIRST THE DEALER DID UNDER WARRANTY. THET USED THE FACTORY BALL JOINTS AND THEY ALSO WENT OUT ABOUT 30,000 MILES LATER. I PAID FOR THE SECOND SET OF BALL JOINTS. THEY WERE MADE BY MOOG AND HAD FITTINGS TO LUBE THEM.
