Hi, Im new to these boards, but I have noticed you guys really seem to know your stuff so I got a few questions
First off Im working with a 64' 390 and the factory specs say it had 10:1 CR, but I can't find any pistons to get that same CR. The heads are C4AE-G and C1AE-{sumthin i dont remember}. Anyways these from what I can gather are 71-74 cc heads, and if I cant find those pistons how much would I have to mill the heads for the TRW-L2291F30's?
Secondly Im thinking if I can get the right pistons for atleast 10:1 CR,CRN-343942 cam, RPM intake,600cfm,new valves, springs, retainers, etc. This a good start? Also what Nitrous capability does a engine like this have, whats too much.
I plan on putting it in about a 3000 lb car, with a 4 speed. Hoping maybe I can do a little better than the factory 300/427 it had.
Any ideas, suggestions, I need all the advice I can get
That cam is probably a little small for what you ant unless you are worried about gas mileage. You will have to mill the heads or deck the block to run the L2291 pistons and get 10:1 compression. You can also use the steel shim gaskets instead of the .041 thick felpros. You might find some stock cast pistons to give it to you but you don't want them wth nitrous. You might look at the Crane 343801 cam. It has a nice wide LCA to give you a flat torque curve and it should work very well with nitrous. I wouldn't go much over a 250HP shot and I would use something better than a plate system for this level. I, myself will not go over 150HP if I decide to run it.
Also about this setup i heard if you run nitrous you need a single plane intake, does any one know how the Port-o-Sonics perform, or what would be my best choice for an intake. Ty
This is true with a plate system only to my knowledge. However, it really isn't a big deal as there are tons of people out there using plates on dual planes and having great success. The port-o-sonic seems to be a good performer but the RPM is said to beat it all around. That is without nitrous anyway.
