I also would take a look at the dodgeI have several friends who have them , they love that engine it is much better on fuel then 6.0. dont like the dodge truck as well as ford but if they dont quite messing me around there is going to be somthing besides a ford in my driveway.

when we're out in the ocean going to the bahamas and need reliability and i happen to look under the hatch, i don't see a powerstroke. i do like my cummins. what a simple design. no rear seal leaks. no injector problems. no major redesigns to the motor....

Shendren: and you have two of them back there I'm sure. We had one of the cummins fail on our 38' sport fisher while in mexico. Took us quite a while to make it back on one. Anyhow, their all good.. my point was that you will here horror stories and success stories no matter which. But man, those dodges are, indeed, ugly.

no I dont have a dodge, but I have been waiting for ford to do something about my powerjoke since aug. best fuel mpgs on hwy. empty 12.8 in the city 8 mpg and pulling 6.2 which is why I bought the truck. To use in my bussiness not ruin my bussiness. I AGREE THE DODGE IS UGLY. but I have a friend who has a new one and is getting 26 mpg on the hwy. and 17 pulling equip. I am going to have to look at them to protect my bank account . It seems ford has lost touch with what made the superduty so popular . dependable good fuel mpg and good power. the dodge has alot more low end power then psd, which helps you get moving with a load. one of the very things the new 6.0 was going to have more of.

I've read that Dodge rates the cummins at 13/16 mpg. I find 26 hard to believe.

Buy the 6.0. Love mine. As far as Dodge goes they have trannny probs from what I've heard. I also used to run a bombardier snowcat with the cummins in it. A couple of them had some problems that even cummins couldn't figure out. So anyway buy the truck that you think looks, rides, and picks up chicks better and you'll be happy. They all have their own quarks you'll just have to deal with. My .02.

I have never seen any 3/4 or 1 ton rated for mpg. I just know my 7.3 got 15 mpg pulling trailer in town. and 23 mpg on the hwy. and the new 6.0 powerjoke I have gets 12.8 on the hwy empty and not pulling anything. also it takes off alot faster than 7.3 but it would not out pull it. THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT. and I know several people who get that mpg or close out of cummins. I just wonder out of all the guys that say they love there 6.0 have ever had a diesel before , and then how many use them to ride around in and how many use them to work and pull and haul. cause I know several people who use there 6.0 to work and most are not happy and Iam talking about guys who have had 2 and 3 diesels.

also I have a friend who has dodge 380000 miles auto trans truck has never been touched except service. dont get me wrong I have been loyal ford man for 28 years but when do you draw the line and say enough. It would be different if ford would step up to the plate and tell people with problems we are working to get the trucks fixed and we will do something for you. but to tell every one the same lie first one we have seen with problem doesnt get it done.

Sorry to hear that you don't get very good mpg. I get about 12 around town and 16/17 highway. I got a little better before the dec flash, but still happy. Have you tried a tuner? Maybe you can tune the thing down for better mpg.

duck2004, Welcome
I have had my 2003 6.0 since last June. We live near Fairbanks, Alaska and did a 10,000 mile trip to Kansas and back with some other roaming around in 3 weeks. This truck is awesome. Was empty on the way down and pulled a trailer of about 5000 to 6000 lbs on the way up. Not a single problem. Hit a lot of steep
passes all through the western U.S. and canada and was able to accelerate in overdrive(manual tranny). Couldn't hardly tell there was a trailer back there. I wasn't pulling much weight but can't wait to test it on pulling more weight. It has started and been driven in temperatures of 50 below zero and actually does really well. Only a couple minor problems, partly due to extreme
temperatures.

johnf250 those are not very good numbers for mpgs on a truck that is touted to do 10% better than 7.3. MY 2000 7.3 GOT 15.4 In town pulling 10k and 24.3 on the hwy empty.

I didn't say they were good numbers -- I just said that I'm happy with em. I didn't expect to get 20 mpg when I bought the truck.

johnf250 thats what the truck should be getting by not letting ford know that those numbers are not exceptible It allows them to continue to say we dont have a problem. after that was 5k we dropped to the 6.0. I get better than that with my gas burner 5.4 and by a good bit. 17.6 mpg on the hwy at 75 mph 13.8 in the city
