I just want to know if there are any other 5.4 owners out there that are happy with their trucks? It seems as though everyone is ready to throw rocks at the little V8, but if you ask me it's the way to go unless you're pulling trailers for a living. My brother-in-law owns a standard '99 F-250 with the V10 and he's averaging about 9 mpg. I own a '01 F-250 SuperCab and I avg. 12-13. That might not sound very significate but that's 120 more miles/tank and with gas back on the rise I see it as a good thing. Neither of us use our trucks to pull anything heavier than a boat, and in such situations having all the horsepower and torque in the world don't do anything except burn more fuel(and maybe boost the ego). I just had to get this off my chest and see something positive about the 5.4 on here.
I will jump on this wagon and say that I am very pleased with my truck as well. In fact, this is the first picup that I have purchased that I can't find any reason to return to the dealer...nothing is wrong.
I had a 99 for 90K with the 5.4 and just bought an 02 5.4. Works for me! Excellent gas mileage, almost 15mpg with an everyday load close to a ton in the back. Trimman
No problems here, with the chip, exhuast and FIPK, I can smoke the tires no prob and tow my 25 foot checkmate with no problems at all.
Of course Im not towing and smoking the tires at the smae time!!
Hey ***** A, what kind of exhaust did you install? My stock exhaust don't have much of a growl to it(sounds about like a V6),but I want to be able to tolerate a long drive. Are you happy with yours? If so please give info. Thanx in advance.

There's nothing wrong with the 5.4 engine. The 6.8 is basically a 5.4 with two more cylinders and a balance shaft added to it.
I just checked my V-10 mileage after it's first 15gal.of fuel.It averaged 11mpg. not bad so far.Cold starts,short trips,very little interstate,two lane highways,stop and go traffic,and a tight engine.
I think the main argument going for the V-10 is that it seems to be at least as efficent as the 5.4 when towing and hauling heavy loads.
I am very happy with my 5.4, used everyday to pull 6,000 lb. trailer with another 800 to 1,000 lbs. in the bed. Average 11-14 mpg depending on type of driving. Plenty of power for what i'm doing.
Going to add chip, k&n, and catback exhaust for alittle extra umph.
