Preliminary earth-shaking stuff

NoMo, looked at your pics and listened to the sound waves on this mod.....AWESOME. I'm wondering if we could purchase just a y-pipe from Banks to get over that part of the OEM exhaust problem. For those with limited funds we could change out at least this part and then maybe a hi-flow muffler for the added performance. Or maybe this could be had from a shop other than Banks. I didn't notice any heat shields on the Banks y-pipe. Is this correct? Thanks, Kirk

Nomo,

Grate images. you did a nicer job that I did on documenting my install (My 35mm was in the shop and I tried using one of the kid's and WOW was it a cheap cameria).

Looks like based on your piuctures Banks finaly did a better job of packaging. Also looks like they added an intergal shield on the passenger side. What year model is your truck.

Thanks everyone.

Kirk-
The Y-pipe alone will not fit the OEM exhaust. I think you'll have to find a shop to custom build one if you want to just replace the "Y". And you are correct; there are no heat shields on the Banks Y-pipe. I don't really think you need any.

Wawii-
The install documentation wasn't near as complete as I hoped, but I got to working and forgot about taking pics. Should get off my butt and create a real web page at the very least. I nearly flipped when I saw that there was no flange on the Banks "Y". I came in and brought up your website to confirm that I had recieved the correct parts. So, THANK YOU for your documentation!

The packaging was excellent. The kit came in two boxes with adequate packing material around the parts inside. Everything was there except an integrated hanger/clamp that is supposed to fit at the front of the muffler. I just got a clamp- will get the hanger welded on later.

My truck is an '01.

NoMo,

I wonder why banks chose to use a slip fitting instead of a flange? Were there clearance issues? Maybe there wasn't enough length from the end of the header to form a Y and have it line up with the cat flange. Did Banks give you good directions on where to make the cut? So did you take out the trailer and try towing?

Let me try this again. My Internet connection crapped out on me this AM when I tried to post this.

GRUMPY_FD-
That is the sound of a V10 with no exhaust except headers. It's MUCH less noisy with all the pipes & stuff connected.

V10man-
It looks to me like (as you also thought) there isn't enough room to form the Y and have it line up with the 2000+ model flange. The '99 models have the flange much closer to the cat so I guess they don't have to cut any pipes. I was kind of disappointed about having to cut stuff but I quickly got over it. ;-)

The instructions are actually very good IMO. They show a diagram of the flange/pipe and where to cut. There are also words to describe the install instead of just having to rely on pictures.

Haven't towed the trailer yet... maybe this weekend. Weather just keeps on being cold and ugly. But, I got my propane tanks filled yesterday so I'm ready to get out to the lake even if I have to run the furnace!

I'll keep trying... looks like the website is crahing now!

There's a North Texas 'Powerstroke' get-together each year and they let me attend last year. The event is held at Eisenhower State Park on Lake Texoma. There was supposed to be a couple of us "gassers", but Fredvon4 couldn't make it. So, I snuck around silently amongst the rattlers and enjoyed the fellowship. Check out their site: www.northtexaspowerstrokes.com

Well, I finally got around to putting all the pics into a webpage with a bit of "description" as to what they are. And remember that I never claimed to be any good at either documentation, photography, or web development.

Just click [link:www.candle-creator.com/nomo/f350/banks/banks.html|here] to see all the files- including, for monsta, pics of the now-named "zoodad" mod.
