This is a problem that I have noticed with several ford motors v6s-v10s.
The only real advice I got was similar, try cleaning the MAF and that this problem is not normal.
The cab on these things are we insulated, so this problem may go unnoticed and ignored by many.
I had the dealer look at mine while it was still under warranty and he change a plug in resister that I cant remember what it was and he also reprogrammed the PCM. This seem to help the problem, as I was able to go from moderate pinging using 89octane to minimal pinging with 87 (unless I am towing).
Let me know if you come up with anything. . .

another little tip dont get your fuel when a tanker is filling the tanks,they stir up the fuel when they do this, therefore you get all the junk that settles to the bottom,dirt,sand and moisture.
