Hey everyone. I was wondering if anyone has heard of problems with 7.3s missing. I am looking at a 1994 F-350 with a 7.3 IDI turbo diesel. The pickup has 200,000 miles on it, but the motor only has about 100,000 miles. The person is asking under $1000 dollars for it, and the Dana 60 frontend in it is worth more than that. I talked to him about it a while ago and I was looking into putting a Cummins into it anyway, so I do not remember for sure what was wrong with the motor. I am pretty sure that he said that it was not firing on one cylinder. After thinking about it, I decided that I could attemt to fix the motor and try to sell it for a profit. I was curious if anyone out there has heard about problems like this with the 7.3. I will talk to him as soon as I can and get the whole story.
It could be. I need to get a better description of what is wrong with it. The guy who owns it was fed up with it and bought a Dodge diesel. I do not think that he tried to figure out what was wrong, so it could be something simple like that.
how come everones anwser is to drop a cummins in?thats alot of screwing around.probly somthing simple like a nozzle.find out and let us know well help ya out.100,000 is just broke in lts of life left.
If it is missing at idle you can go around to each injector with a 5/8 wrench and break the connection loose and see which one doesnt make a difference. that will be the bad cylinder. It could also be a bad valve bridge broken under the valve cover. Get back to us with your findings.
Yeah, I'll check that out when I have a chance. I am going to college about 350 miles form home, so I only get home every 2 or 3 weeks and I usually don't have much time to do anything when I am home. I think that if I do get it I will probably either fix it and try to sell it or part it out if the motor is bad. It is not too difficult to put a Cummins into it, but it will probably cost $3000 or more to do the conversion, not including the cost of the motor, so I might as well buy a Dodge and skip the hassle.
