ratsmoker told me he is using the newest version of desktop dyno, I believe. Yeah no kidding, my interest is definitely high, so when do you plan on dynoing the motor? later

re:If I understand correctly, the smaller valves give better low end torque. I'm certainly no expert, but have been looking at heads myself. Seems that smaller valves, are better on low rpms, but limit the amout of air/fuel entering the cyl. which, in turn, limit how many rpm's the engine can turn.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The smaller valves keep the low valve lift air velocity high...making the heads more efficient at filling the combustion chamber at low valve lifts.... the smaller ports also help keep the intake port velocity high this equates to good low end torque...
The price to be payed is in top end power....where the size of the ports will limit the Volumetric efficiency at higher rpms.

The larger valved/larger port heads will slow the intake port down a bit at low valve lifts thus reducing torque a bit....but the benefit is being able to fill the combustion chambers better at higher rpms....

The 351w should work well with properly ported heads and good valve sizes....The question is...where do you want your torque? and how much can you realistically spend on heads?

Good aftermarket heads run over $1k

properly ported iron heads can run up to $850 (depending on the prep work performed) so it is up to you....

If cost is your bubble...go with ported irons...

cheers

If I read correctly it was $750 or best offer...

It is not just the heads....but the larger stainless valves, seatwork, machining, portwork, and additional valvetrain components that are being payed for...ad them up and you can exceed the amount being asked

Places like powerheads charge up to $500 just for portwork alone...

I know what your saying, stock reworked heads can be a sensitive topic. I can go either way, depending on application, I was just shocked at seeing the $750 price tag, I would expect to pay that if I had the work done myself. later
