I have a 2000 F250SD 7.3PSD. I have noticed that when it is cool outside (less than 40) the truck will start with a normal idle (around 700rpm). While it is sitting at idle for a couple of minutes, the idle will speed itself up to around 1000. It goes back to normal idle when I touch the break pedal. Not a big deal, just wondering if this is part of the program. Thanks, Glenn
Thanks rmilchman, I thought that was probably it. I have a remote starter/alarm system and thought it might be playing with me. By the way, remote starters are great! Love it when it is cold, drink my coffee in the kitchen and start the truck!
As everyone has said, yes it's normal. My favorite part of this feature is, when it's idled up to 1100-1200 rpm, go around and listen to your exhaust pipe. It sounds like you've got a jet engine in there!

Yes it is part of the pcm program, it's called CAP (cold ambient package).
