In the general discussions of the "Grammar 'as if anyone cares'" topic, I came to realize that some folks may have very different ideas of what these forums are all about. I surely do not expect that everyone sees this venue as the same, which prompts my question to the FTE gang: How do you perceive these forums? For what purpose do you come to them, and what do you come away with from them? F-3 Brien
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 19-Jun-02 AT 06:56 PM (EST)]I don't know if you are just talking about the G/C forum but,If you want a get quick sense of why people people spend time around FTE,I would suggest looking at the ratings of people that have ratings applied to them.
The one thing that most people that come here seem to appreciate is the expertise of the regulars and the Gentlemenly (if that's a word) attitude that most people possess.
Me ! Besides the obvious, I'm here for the beer nuts & beer.
i came here looking for info on my truck, as i knew just the basics. since i joined a year ago, i loved it here and have always returned. tired other sites, and they are useless compared to this one, and with people like dennis, monsta and grewyolf there is hardly a dull moment
I am very new to the site. I came because I own a 51 Ford F-3 and wanted to glean all of the information I could from the site. The discovery of the dialogue was a bonus. I can deal with wiseguys and foolish banter. One of the most relevant aspects of this website is the expertise from the entire participation of the folks who come here. Where else can one go to get such a wide breath(minus the beer) of opinions and expertise upon the Ford products? It reminds me of the town hall forum upon which democracy was formed. No one individual has all of the answers. This is great stuff. I tried to join the FTE club but my application somehow became "lost". I guess I did not apply properly. As for the beer question, it depends upon the season for me. Lager in the summer, ale in the fall, porter in the winter, Bock in the spring. Bourbon or brandy with a good cigar anytime of the year!
ahhhh I just finished a cigar myself. How relaxing. As far as how I percieve this forum, it's a way to get specific information of my trucks. For that, it's great. My only problem is, there are some people on here that take it too seriously and are too in to rules and regulation, and they almost ruin the fun of talking trucks. To these people I can only say: Lighten up, it's supposed to be fun! I understand that there has got to be some order to a site like this, it can be take too far. Anyhoo, for the most part I like this forum alot.
I like the experience, nothing beats the soothing words of someone who's done the job before. I asked around, and the best opinions I get are here. Now that I've done most of the jobs I aspired to do, it's really a joy to help and advise those who were in my shoes not so long ago. Plus, the tech discussion keeps even us guys who really know our stuff on edge, and up to date with current research and technology.

I first started reading this forum for technical information for myself. The more I read, the more I learned. Then I saw that I was able to also help others. I don't claim to have all the answers, and I don't claim that all the answers I give are right, but what advice I give is based on experience - either my own or someone else that I know or have read of, or qualified by "in my opinion".
When the forum was spit into selected topics, it made it easier to find information about a specific vehicle, but more difficult to find a specific problem, which may be common on several vehicles. I tend to read all the technical forums for which I have a vehicle. If I had only one Ford, I would probably miss a lot of good information.
I am not criticising the layout, I think it's by far the best discussion board on the web. I just have to remember to search, or look on all the forums for a specific problem.
Regarding my post about grammar, I was under the impression that the General Discussion forum was for whatever you wanted to talk about - excluding technical truck questions.
I never intended to start a fire, as has been suggested. I just like to do the very best I can at whatever I am doing. If I am painting my truck, I wouldn't want to miss a spot and leave the primer showing. Likewise, when I write, I don't like to have grammatical or spelling errors. I appreciate being corrected - whether technical or grammatical. I wasn't proposing any rules. I am not offended by anyone who ignore's me or what I say. Otherwise I would be offended most of the time. That's why I added "as if anyone cares". I you don't care - just ignore it.
I am hereby offering my sincere apologies to anyone who was offended by my post, or any of its replies.
At least we all have one thing in common - we all like Ford Trucks!
I came here originally to find information about my brand new 2002 supercrew. I had questions about bedliners, tonneau covers, exhaust, etc. I was impressed by two things. One was the overall knowledge and experience of the regulars, and two was the "Family atmosphere' of this site. Many places on the web are vulgar and seem to be unsupervised, but this site , for the most part, is full of decent, caring people who really seem to like each other. I have searched all over, and always come back here. I enjoy the camaraderie (sp)and plus, I like to hang around Ford People!

Thanks a million people. I needed some positive reinforcement today.
I think this site is great for not only the expert Ford information, but there is a sense of community here. You see, I am just emerging from a wildfire on a previous topic in the forum that has nothing to do with Ford and everything to do with human nature. Man is my posterior scorched. I love the dialouge and also to banter with the toughest. FTE be can be tough, just like the trucks. I figure to join soon. Time for a Macenudo but I will be standing up at the bar! F-3 Brien
I was searching for a 1940 or '41 truck for my Hubby when I happened upon this place. Although I didn't find the truck on this site, I did find alot of useful info. I just love the 1947 & Older and the Bodywork forums. Plus, where else can I go and ask automotive and paint & body questions and not get that "You can't do it - you're just a girl" look.
Winford: I am with you all of the way. I wrote an opinion that fanned the flames even worse. I can't believe how much my statements were taken out of context, misrepresented, and generally misunderstood. Wow I was on the defensive all day long today. Human nature, being what it is, I should have seen the fires in the distance but there is something in me that draws me to a good debate like the "proverbial moth to the flame". I concur with your apologies, but, on the other hand, we cannot be responsible for what others misunderstand and then attempt to represent as our opinions.
Resting from the scorches. F-3 Brien
