No sweat. Well, guys, I am not close, but I understand that if I were I would want to watch him go. And the thought that we don't use the electric chair and some other methods in most states because they are cruel and inhumane.Ha! Could I throw the switch? Yes. You are not morally responsible for whatever punishment that killer is receiving. He is only getting the just reward for his actions. Does that make me better? Yes, again.I have never committed any crimes. Why aren't I better? These people are saying that all of us have a pre-disposition to kill and the only reason that it is not any of us in that chair is pure luck. What garbage! Whether or not all of the people are guilty, they did not get there by being saints. Are we going to put some innocent people to death? Probably, and that is very unfortunate. Are they "not guilty"? That is another question. That the dp is a deterrent or not is not relevant. Just like War in Iraq, some things must be done simply to say that enough is enough. It is not about killing. It is about justice. I do not agree that there are shades of grey here. If you will kill then you will be disposed of.I hope I am keeping this in the rules, but ,man, I am passionate about this. What if it was Mike Farrell's daughter or Martin Sheen's wife? Does it ever seem to you guys that logic never enters some peoples' minds?
A frequently cited justification for the death penalty is that it is a deterrent for further crime. I do not feel that such is the case, but it could be. To be truly effective as a deterrent, I firmly believe that executions should be televised, during prime time, for all the world to see (especially those whom we wish to deter). Just like in the old days, when entire families would come in to town to witness an execution. It was a public event. I'm sure it put the fear of the lord into more than one mind.

Oh, it is. Trust me. Have you ever heard of any criminal being a repeat offender after the sentence was carried out?
Having a brother murdered a little over 2 years ago, I do fully support the death penalty. Am I vindictive, you bet. I supported it before this happened though. Unfortunately, his killer(s) have not been apprehended, nor do I really expect that to happen after this length of time. If they are caught and convicted, I will be first in line to witness the execution, and more than willing to "pull" their plug.

[BIf they are dead, they can not commit more crimes. [/B]
I believe that's part of an old bumper sticker. Of course, executed criminals will no longer be repeat offenders, but the point is that the execution should serve as a deterrent to others who may at some point consider committing a similar crime. If they are blissfully unaware of the repercussions, there is one less obstacle in their path.
