Okay, I need everyones help on this one. I have the truck listed below with warped front rotors. I believe Nomo had this problem quite a bit. I could be wrong on who it was so feel free to correct me. Anyway, I am going to tackle this tomorrow and I am looking for a few pointers. First off, is there better rotors than stock and if so, what where and who do I get them from? How hard are they to pull off to get turned. I have done this on an 84 and 86 F-150 but never one of these. Thanks for the help!
Wasn't me. Never had a warped rotor on any of my trucks. But, the hubs should just come off the axle. Might take a little light tapping if they are rusted on. When my time comes, I'll probably just get a set of aftermarket rotors from a local parts store.
Sorry Nomo, I thought it was you. Good luck on finding rotors at the local parts store. The best I can do is to order them Monday and have them here by Wednesday. The cheapest I found was $100 a piece. I thought about turning them but this would make them thinner which would cause them to warp quicker. Thanks for the link Powerstroker250, I am going to give them a call Monday.
Yeah Scott you're right about them warping even quicker. I don't know if it's the weight of my truck or it's the torque on the wheels or inferior metals that causes my rotors to warp as much as they do. Probably a little bit of all.
Applied has rotors and pads for $700 for all four corners. Not too bad when you compare them to OEM.
Some guys are looking into seding the stock (or aftermarket) rotors out to a have the cryo' treated. No reports yet of the usefulness of doing this but the cost is about $30 per rotor.
Hmmmm Let's see....Dealerlist for all four rotors and pads is about $550.00. For $150.00 more, I'll get (what appears to be) higher quality components which should not warp as easily and will last longer...
Yeah, $700 is a lot of dough...so is $550...but if the Applied Tech. works better and lasts longer then it is money well spent. At this point I'll pay almost anything to get rid of the wumpa wumpa wumpa...permanently.
Hey Monsta, have you heard back yet from any of those who are using the cryogenic treatment on their rotors. I talked to an outfit that does this work but It would make me feel better if an Excursion owner said that it worked for them. I also wanted to thank you for referring me to the right guy to help me solve my water pump failures. As of now, water pump failures are a thing of the past.
I had warpped rotors with my 1997 f150, and just going to Carbon Metallic pads made them smooth again. The only problems were the pads didn't last long and they created alot of black dust. Has anyone tried the new ceramic pads?
