Howdy all. Here in certain parts of North Carolina state inspections require the inspector plug in to the vehicle's ODB system rather than a simple sniffer up your tail pipe. I'm told certain modifications can trip the check engine light which not only means you failed inspection but you wasted money to boot.
Judging by the number of folks running cat-backs they apparently don't but I'm wondering about others such as headers, throttle body changes and the like. Any experience would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forum 
As long as you don't alter emmisions system to where it won't pass a sniffer test, most of the available mods work just fine. Removing the converters would trip the light without theMIL eliminators for the rear o2 sensors. It wouldn't pass a sniffer test either.
Headers, cat-back, chips, throttlebodies, and air intake kits will not trip the light if installed properly.
