Trans safe mode

For the second time in three months my transmission has gone into safe mode. The OD light started flashing and the trans was shifting very hard. I pulled over, reset the computer and all is fine. My question is what causes this error? Both times this happened I wasnt doing anything out of the ordinary, just driving along. Any ideas will be much appreciated.

My 93 F250 just started doing the same thing, except mine starts flashing as soon at it shifts into 3rd gear. Anyone know what's going on or what to do? On an 93 non-torbo, do I have an ECM to reset?

When the OD light flashes a code is stored in the PCM. You need to read that code to find out what is wrong.

And yes, your '93 has a PCm that just runs the transmission.
