Exhuast mods or chip??

I have a 2000 F150 4X4 with a 4.6L auto, 3:55 rears. We just purchased a 4400 lb dry weight TT and I am wondering where I should spend my extra cash first - chip or exhaust mods? Where would you place your money first to get the best result????

I've done every bolt on mod you can do to a truck and for towing exhaust mods tend to take away from your low end power a little bit and chips seem to really make there power in the mid to upper rpm power range. If you want to make a good power increase through the total rpm range you might consider electric fans. I've got them and they make a very good power increase from idle to wide open throttle.

Couldn't have said it better!
If you need all over power, chip/tuner first. If you want top end, exhaust. Combined they're even better.

95 F150, I also have heavily modified my vehicle with bolt ons. The only one I regret at this point is my JET Ford Power Module. I added it long ago, before I learned many of the details that make me regret that wasted $300. I am eventually going to purchase either the Diablo or Superchips, but right now I am considering electric fans. I have been doing research on the subject, and I am very interested in hearing from folks like you who have had success with them. Posted a topic on the Bronco board and only got one response. I would appreciate it greatly if you could describe your setup and which fans you used. Although you drive a F150 and I drive a Bronco, our engines and engine compartments are practically identical. You could access my profile and e-mail me if you prefer.

Ken, I apologize for the off-topic post in the Chips forum, but my knowledge sponge craves input. Thanks for your patience.

My personal experience with electric fans (on an older truck) is that they make a big difference at mid and high RPMs.

Hey fellas....Great info on chips/tuners. I too am looking for more, more, more in the way of performance-hp.

I also had some questions on electric fans. Where could we go to talk about them?

Thanks...

Bigredbronc, What didn't you like about the jet performance chip? Also, I'm planning on putting electric fans in my 76 f250. I'm using 2 fans out of front wheel drive cars and I'm using a varible speed controller from Flex-a-lite which first turns the fans on at %60 power at what ever temp you set it at, to ease the load on your electrical system. Then it gradually goes to 100% power as within the next 10 degrees temp increase. I haven't put them in yet, but I'm interested to how well it will work out.

I love my Diablo, it gives extra power at all RPM's. It is very noticeable driving a 5-speed because it makes it drive a lot easier, especially noticeable when stopped at a light going up a hill. To me, it has been the best money spent so far. This is on my 93 4.0 Ranger.

The JET chip only provides performance tuning above 2500RPM and at WOT. They are reluctant to talk about that little fact, and avoid it altogether on their advertising and their website. I learned this little tidbit in this forum. When I called JET and asked their tech support about it, they were really evasive on the subject. I finally asked a couple of questions that only had yes or no answers and got the truth. Heard the same thing here about Hypertech and got the same results when I talked to them. They really do not want you to know that their products do nothing for you at the low end. That would kill their sales to truck guys like us.
As for the electric fans, I installed the Flexalite Model #295 Electric Fans. 4600 CFM at 100% with only 28amp draw. They fit like a glove, and surprising power gains in low and mid range. Gives great control over cooling system and really opens up your engine bay. There are pictures in my gallery, and a complete write up with more/better pictures on my web site.
The only reason I have not purchased my Diablo yet, is that I am still debating whether or not to install a Crane Powermax cam. I know I could get the chip reprogrammed after the cam, but I hate doing the same work twice.
Good Luck.
