I am sure this post is somewhere on this board but I can't find it. I have an 2001 supercrew with a 5.4L and auto trans. My question is about the transmission and the "cluck" sound I get when I stop. It normally happens when I come to a normal stop at a light but only after I have stopped and then begin to take off again. It clucks on take off and then works fine until the next stop. I have tried to stop both hard and normal with the trans in neutral trying to eliminate the braking system. It appears that the problem is in the tranny because I can't simulate the cluck sound when in neutral.
Any help or a link to a previous post will be greatly appreacated. I want to take this thing to the dealer but don't want the shaft again I want to have some ammo....
To my knowledge, no one has ever found a solution to the infamous SuperCrew "thunk/clunk". Ford claims it's "normal" for the clunk to occur. Some have found that lubricating the driveshaft slip-yoke helps. Others have found relief by adding friction modifier to the tranny fluid.
