drivetrain questions
my truck: 2001 f-250 sc sb 5-speed v10 4.3LS manual hubs & 4x4 engage

It's my understanding that is not really preferred on a lifted, 4-wheelin' truck. For street use it is fine.
>What are the differences between that and the 2002's
>Dana 60 front.
I know the axle shafts are necked down on the D50. There are more differences than the one that I know off-hand. A real "techie" should be able to give you the full run down.
>Now my rearend would be a 10.5 Sterling. Is that a pretty stout setup?
Compared to what? And for what? Seems stout to me. Although getting better, the available choices in gearing is somewhat slim.
>Does all the '99 up SD use the same combos; 50 or 60 front with the 10.5 rear?
The dually's get the the Dana 80. Pre-'02 Dually's also wore the D60 up front.

I have no idea. But where there is a will, there is a way...;-)
>manual tranys, would it be a direct bolt in replacement?

If you use a 2002 transmission from a V10 it should be a bolt in. Any earlier 6 speed, and the 2002 diesel version, have the wrong bellhousing bolt pattern. It won't bolt to the engine.
