Would like some thoughts on the availability of parts for a 300 I6. I know there are motors available through the usual channels, Jasper, etc. But for how much longer? Afterall they stopped using these things in 1996. Need a cheap truck to pull my boat w/ and like the longevity aspects of the 300, just don't want to have to pull teeth to get parts for the thing. THanks.
I haven't had any problem getting any parts for mine anywhere. Everyone I have every talked to can have the part within a day or so, if they don't have them in stock.
Hawk- I dont think that there will ever be a problem with getting parts for the good ole straight 300 I-6. They have been making that motor for so long and they are lasting so long that the demand will be in strong demand for a long time to come. I have talked to a couple of mechanics and they have told me that usually after 20 years from the ceasing of manufacture of a particular motor or vehicle that parts have to be obtained from certain channels other than ford, chevy, etc. I dont know as to how true that is.But it all that i have heard
Thanks for the input folks. I usually switch cars every 5-6 years right now so that'll not be a problem. Are the 5 speed trannys on these trucks worthy enough to hold up for the life of the 300?
If you are meaning the 5 speed M50D Manual tranny then i would say yes as long as you change the fluid in them about once a year or more depending on what you do with it. My truck is a 1991 f-150 with 250,000 miles on my 300 I-6 and 250,000 miles on my 5 speed mazda. I would say yes they are worthy. but i will say one thing you can tow with them but they are not a heavy duty towing tranny.
