so what if they are junk. I don't think they make em just sell em.
Moog is the only way to go..They reengineered them to last longer about 2 years ago As far as I remember..
Mine are shot as well. Just failed state inspection. How tough are they do do yourself? I've done most of the work on my vehicles for over 30 years but never had to do ball joints. I picked up a Haynes manual for the Superduty and it recommends that the dealer do this work. The dealer wants $750 for both sides, parts and labor.
Where are the Moogs available? By the way, my truck is a '99 F-250 Super cab.
You can get Moog ball joint at CarQuest for total of $100 for one side upper and lower. I'm only doing the driver side. Parts needed from Ford Stealership are as follows: F81Z-3254-CB (oil seal) for $32.22, F81Z-4A322-AA (o-ring) for $4.79, and F81Z-1S175-HCA ( retain assy) for $17.92. So for $155 you can do one side if you have the tools. Hope this helps someone....
I bought the moogs from Kunkels. An employee on my dad's farm will be installing them. He knows what he is doing. Do i need all that stuff from ford? Thanks for all the help.
I figure better safe than sorry, took the stealership 2 days to get the special order parts. My truck is 5 1/2 years old and may need this soon anyway, as instructions call for at Dieselstop.com. Ended up paying $131 for everything due to CarQuest discounting the parts I got... Job starts Friday.
I'd to both upper and lower at the same time, that way you only do it once.
On the none 4x4's it take us about an hour to do upper and lower per side. I haven't done a 4x4 yet. But it can't be too hard. When you press out sometimes you may have to hit it with a hammer as someone is using an impact on the press.
