need a new V10 engine
The shop wants $6100 parts and labor for a Ford rebuilt which includes a $1500 core charge. They say they can't use the block because the rod blew a 3 inch hole in the side. I didn't see it for my self. Is this likely? They say ford charges them $1500 because the block can't be used again. Is this true? 6K is a lot of money for me especially considering I just spent $3800 on a new tranny.
Any suggestions on what to do or where to find a good 6.8L with a warranty (Ford only offers 3yr 36K on theirs). Thanks.
You should definitely shop around as various dealerships charge diffferent prices. You might also look at some of the local salvage yards to see if there might be an engine available. Probably wouldn't have much of a warranty, but it'd be significantly cheaper.
I did actually see the V10 on Ebay. It seems too good to be true. I E-mailed the seller about the warranty and he said 30 day! I fired back asking if it wasn't backed by Ford (being a new engine and all). He said no. That makes me nervous. What do you guys think?
Also, if I were to find a newer year (mine is '99) could I use it? I would like to get something newer and get the 310hp instead of 275hp on 1999's and hopefully avoid the flying spark plug problem. Would this require a new computer or other such stuff?
