oil capacity

tell me what the oil capacity (including filter) is on a 360. I have a 1969 ford. the chilton book shows 6 quart with filter. However dip stick shows quart over full mark.

Is that after you run the engine to prime the oil filter? If so it may be to much oil. However your dip stick ring\cap may be loose or out of it's normal location. Also it is possible it was switched in the past. I don't recall, but does your oil pan have a double hump? Some that do have two drain plugs(Fox bodied Mustangs.) and need to be drained from both to get all the old oil out.

thanks for your reply 68torino. yes filter primed and oil pan has one sump in the front of engine. dip stick cap against pull ring and secure pull ring/cap one piece. but like you said may not be the right dip stick. I've been keeping the level at the full mark "5QT". but am confused what the manuals say 6QT cap. w/filter. thanks jakes69.
