I'm kinda in a jam here. Because there are a few things that are wrong with my truck right now and I really don't want spend alot of money on expensive headers. I have to do the rear end really soon. I have an exhaust tick/leak and it might be the manifolds I was wondering whether or not I should replace them or go with headers? Like how much more money are headers than manifolds?
Can you replace the y pipe that comes down from the manifolds? It could be just the y pipe and that might need replacing. Any suggestions on what I should do? I've already got duals coming off the y-pipe and that sounds god I guess, but I know that it's leaking because I can here it in the cab when I accelerate. Plus that ticking is bugging me.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I've read mixed reviews on Pacesetter's. Personally I would spend a few extra bucks and go with something stainless with 3/8" flanges. My FMS stainless shorties were 280 bucks and look exactly the same as they did a year ago when I put them on, no rust whatsoever. I'm pretty sure Bassani makes a y-pipe for our trucks but it's probably gonna be expensive
Pacesetters are crap, theres no way around it. Yes, Bassani makes a Y pipe with catalytic convertor for the Bronco/F-series (I have one on my bronco, along with Bassani ceramic coated headers). The Bassani stuff is very well constructed, but is pricey. It was worth it to me. I believe manifolds from Ford are around 4-500! My ceramic coated Bassani headers were something like 425 I think. You should check out www.proficientperformance.com . They carry all of the major manufacturers, plus have some of the best pricing I have found (btw, thats where I bought all of my exhaust items, as have others here. I would recommend them).
That's way over my budget gentlemen. If it comes down to it I'll just have to take the manifold off and try to see if anything's wrecked. I really don't have $250-500 USD to spend on headers. What about dynomax headers? Hooker? Hedman?
Well if you want to go the cheap replacement route, I see manifolds on ebay for the 302 all the time. You can tell they are made from cheap metal, and are probably imported, but they are really cheap. Also, have you searched ebay for headers? Sometimes a used set come up for sale.
Hedmans aren't to bad are they? I'd buy em, there resonably priced too. Why go back to manifolds, 302 with 33's can always use some more power (in my head everything always needs more power) but don't get shorties, those aren't much better then manifolds.
if money is such an issue, than make sure whats leaking first. it may be just the manifold gasket or y pipe thats loose. try a bone yard they should be cheap.
