Stupidity in Canada...!!

A few days ago a "major" problem surfaced in Canada.... ya gotta check this out, it may sound familiar and I would love to hear from some regular person in the USA on this:

Our Govt. Sponsored (read left wing / socialist), Broadcaster has live Hockey Telecasts typically on Sat. Nights called "Hockey Night in Canada". About the best there is in hockey telecasts. During the intermissions we have probably one of the greatest Canadian personalities on the air with a no holds barred style of commentating. His name is Don Cherry (He used to coach the Boston Bruins)

This past week he commented on players wearing / not wearing visors on their hockey helmets. (he said that it appears that the only players wearing visors were "..the Europeans and some French guys..")

This is what I have to say on the matter and the following Really needs to be said.

Sooooo.., Don Cherry is now the bad boy of Canada..What a crock..!! Isn't it strange that (French) Cdn. Politicians can call a respected head of state, in my humble opinion - George W. Bush, a B@stard, a Moron, a cowboy Idiot etc. (spring 2003), with absolutely no response from the Official Federal Government of Canada..??

Yet when a respected and knowledgeable hockey commentator says something about who in the NHL wears HOCKEY Helmet visors no less, (and I quote.."& some French guys"), The whole of Canada comes Unglued with the Government supported CBC (Read Canukistan Broadcasting Corp. AKA Pravda West), reprimanding him and then, on top of that, we have to get the Federal Language Commissionaire on his case...????

And people wonder why there is separatist sentiment in Western Canada...Duhhh..!!

We are just a little tired of having a French Canadian minority (That coincidently runs the whole federal government), slam the French language/culture down our throats.

No Offense to my Fellow Eastern Canadians...but we have people growing beef/wheat out here that are literally dying & getting screwed over big time by the packing plants/feed lots/& your Government, the same federal govt. that is steadfastly going ahead with Kyoto (which will KILL any and all investment in the Oil & Gas sector...Gee guys where do you get your heating fuel from..??), even while the rest of the world is going to say no to Kyoto, all that the Eastern part of Canada can comment/think about is Don Cherry..???????

Imagine Hockey Coach Jacques Demers even saying that that particular comment by Cherry was racist...RACIST..?? Give - me - a - break, maybe he should review some of Jacques Parizeau's or Gille Landry's (Rabid Quebec Separatists), comment's in the past 5-7 years. Now there are a couple of REAL Racists..!!

Ohh did I just say that..?? I apologize again...

We have Canadian Soldiers dying in Afghanistan because we equip them with "Punch Buggies" instead of armored HumVee's...and cannot afford them the time of day yet Don Cherry's comments require full mobilization of the French Canadian Language Police and "Immediate Neutralization of the situation"

Talk about Cranial/Rectal Inversion
...of the first order.!

Just exactly What planet are we living on..??

...and no I am not a Racist...you know, I am just tired of apologizing to each and every minority that has their itch (with a B), of the week and sick … totally sick of Political correctness with the only aim of those social engineers doing this cr@p being to getting re-elected.

I have no room/time for political correctness in order to satisfy a small vocal minority and subjugate a quiet majority in ones own country. It just seems that our laws are now being written (by unelected Judges), for the minorities, with no regard to the Majority. It appears it is politically correct to slam White Anglo/Saxon-Prot/Cath/Jewish/ENGLISH persons these days because apparently, we seem to offend everyone. Well I apologize, .... simply for being alive. (sic BIG TIME)

There is no such thing as DEMOCRACY in Canada. We live in an autocratic dictatorship ..the Prime Minister is GOd. All Bow and say "Heil Paul Martin, Master of Canada & Canada Steamship Lines"

I suspect that things are quite similar in certain instances in the US.

Long Live Alberta. The last bastion of Democracy/Free enterprise in Canada

I can understand how you feel. Not to worry though, stupidity is not limited to Canada.

We have the PC police down here too. They're usually made up of the liberal elite. They seem to think they have some moral high ground on which to stand on and look down upon us who lean to the right somewhat. Where does such "enlightenment" come from anyway?

I assure you steak2k1 that eastern Canada has alot more than stupid Don Cherry to worry about. Our farmers are also feeling the devastation of the various food markets, and I think you need to identify the actual villians of your greviance as govt beuracrats/politians in central Canada rather than eastern Canadians. I agree we have much more to worry about than Cherry, from a govt point of view. I have seen a very bitter edge to Cherry's comments in the last years and I think his time has come and gone; Ron just needs a new partner. Please don't lump easten Canada together. I think you could enjoy Atlantic Canada as much as I did Alberta when I was out there.

The official complaint actually came from a francophone group in B.C. (west coast of Canada)

I agree with you for the most part steak2k1, though I don't see it as an east vs. west issue in any way.

It got blown way outta proportion, and it's a huge waste of tax dollars. I sent emails to the CBC and Federal Language Commision with my thoughts on the subject.

Cherry has to learn to smarten up though, he just brings this kinda thing upon himself way too often.

The term " Eastern Canada" used to identify "Central Canada (Canadian's) "has been abused for a long time.

It is *wrongly* mainly used term, as a frustrated comment.

OK:

I should set the record straight. By Eastern I did in fact not mean the East coast as I too have spent some darned goodtimes ...lord tunderin..!!

je parle la belle francaise ausi...OK.?

As for those that seemed put out by the fact that I really meant Central Canada ...sorry but for the most part you are the ones that put and have kept this bunch of useless pork bellying Jerques in power. Most elections in this country are over by the time we get to Manitoba.

I put a lot into that letter...and some of it did not have to do with Don Cherry. It was an outpouring of some stuff that has been simmerin within me for a long time.

Kyoto - just plain stupid and not proved.
Gun control - Give me a break (long guns no less). 1 Billion spent to no avail..!!
CDN Military - They do an awesome job for being neglected and given too little to work with.
Judicial Activism Judges make the law and are unelected..nice eh.

Billions wasted (CRDC/Shawinigate etc...), with most going to support their friends, their own companies and to pave the way for their own re-election.

Nothing that I have seen has changed with Paul Martin in as PM.

But all in all the remarks made by Cherry are simply that.. REMARKS, not racist, not derogatory or anything. I know we have hate crime laws but those comments do not even come close......Supoosedly we still have free speech..??

God allmighty all he simply said was "some french guys"

What the hey is wrong with that..???????

Nuff said. Untill we see an Elected/Equal/Effective Senate, proportional representation, and a bit of common sense, along with a reversal of some of the above noted problems, I will remain an agitator for change and push for a separate deal within or outside of confederation.

RGds,

man i am french, and im also the only person i know who wears a visor around here. Cherry was just making an observation which is pretty damn true if you ask me

See my post for some clarification on this.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The group that filed the official complaint is the Canadian Parents for French based in Victoria.
I just received this response from the CBC regarding my email.
"Thank you for your email to the CBC. We appreciate the time you have taken to write regarding this issue. Audience feedback is very important to us; your comments will be included in a report circulated weekly among senior executives, producers and programmers at the CBC, including the President and CEO Robert Rabinovitch.
Chris Augustin
Communications Officer
CBC Audience Relations"
Likely a cut and paste reply, but hopefully it will have some impact.
