I have a 92 explorer, last winter it was running cold it would stay around the first normal line in the summer it ran normal right in the middle this winter i replcaed the t-stat it started to be at about a quarter of the way up and stay, now its fluchuating to about half way sometimes to the cold line, so the t-stat is bad again i was using the factory recomened 195 and the t-stat was an auto zone stat, the one that was in before was a motor craft stat, i was wondering what you all recomend for a good t-stat, its an ez fix but a real pain in the butt to get the last bolt out i would hate to have to do it every few months
For some reason auto zone does not have the fail safe for the 92 explorer thats what i wanted when i went the first time did not have it...checked online same thing guess they dont make it for the 92.....The motorcraft is what i had before the one thats in now i guess i will go back unless someone has something better
I have replaced Motorcraft t-stat for 3 times within the last three years under warrenty and personally got tired of it so I bought Stant. A lot have been using it for years and still works great so that's why I got it.
I reccommend Motorcraft parts for a lot of things but the only thing I don't get from them is the t-stat. They're junk compared to their competitors.

That's strange, I've had just the opposite experience with Stant
thermostats, I had to replace them once a year, due to them
sticking open!! I have had this experience on my 1999 3.0L FFV
Ranger, and 1972 Volvo 1800E. When the Stant was working
on my Ranger, I could see fluctuations in my temp gauge, which
I do not have with the Motorcraft thermostat.
Thanks 96explorereddieb just put the stant in works great dont have fluchuating temps like i had with the motorcraft and the auto zone thanks...thanks all for the other advice
