My mom has the exact same problem in her Ford Windstar. She, nor ford has figured it out so she only uses high octane fuel too. It's been happening to it for the past year, and we still can't figure it out, but my bets are on the throttle body because it's the worst during accelleration, and especially up hills. Hope this helps is some way, and good luck
All that the throttlebody does is let air into the engine. It won't cause pinging.
The 3.8/4.2's are bad about the EGR ports in the intake clogging up with carbon.
I would also check the fuel pressure and clean the MAF.

I replaced the plugs, but I will pull them and check the gaps. The check engine light comes on and the code says that it is a 'camshaft postion sensor circuit malfuntion' I will replace this as well.
though not sure if there is a correlation or not thanks.
I know that the truck won't start with a bad sensor, but I am getting tired of looking at the check engine light. The code comes back as a circut malfunction on the camshaft Sensor. The cap may be cracked or something, not sure but at thirty dollars, it's a small price to pay for that idoit light not looking at you with one ugly yellow eye reminding you of what an idiot you are. Thanks. First time using this forum, it has been helpful.
