Sounds like you have two problems, I have some questions;
1. How long ago did you replace your thermostat?
2. Did the temp gauge register normal temp before the thermostat swap?
I do not know your technical abilities, so pardon me if I insult your intelligence. I usually work with the "I know where the gas goes" crowd.
Your second problem can be diagnosed with a simple test.
1. Set your heater to FLOOR and blower to HIGH.
2. With the engine running, step on the gas and take it up to 1500-2000 RPM's. In Park, in the driveway is fine.
3. Check to see if the air flow changes from the floor vents to defrost vents by itself.
If this is the case, check your vaccum check valve or reservoir, if these are OK check the Floor vaccum motor. The airflow problem sounds like a vaccum leak and the heat problem could be an air pocket, water pump, blocked heater core, or a faulty thermostat. Trust me, I have seen new parts fail right out of the box.
