How do i set the code to the keypad

I just bought a 2001 Ex yesterday and it didn't have a owners manual. Can someone tell me how to reprogram the keypad on the drivers door to put my on code in.

Do you have the factory ( original ) code ? You will need it to add your own.

And if you go register at My Ford MyFord, you can download a copy of the owner's manual. Look under Resources & References.

Like mentioned above, you will need the original factory code. You can then change the code to whatever but the code you add will not override the factory code. So, both the code you add and the factory code will still work.
I had mu manual stolen and the theif has the factory code. So, whoever the theif is can open my door whenever unless I disconnect the harness from inside the door. What a pain !!!!!

Is there really a wire connected to the outside pad? (I failed to take notice the last time I was inside that door.) Or is it simply another battery-powered remote? Ford offers outside keypads that you program just like your key-fob remote, and you attach them to the exterior with double-back tape. Neat idea if you have remote unlock feature AND no exterior keypad.

I have to double check this. I had my door panel off a couple of weeks ago when I installed the new signal runiing light mirrors. It seems to me though, that there should be some type of harness running to the pad. I say this because the pad illumunates and after awhile the battery would go dead and have to be replaced. What a pain it would be to have to take off the door panel to change a battery for the keypad.

Now that I think about it a little further, you're probably correct. Not only does the keypad light up as soon as you start punching keys, but the interior & running board lights illuminate, too. So most likely, the keypad is hard-wired to the truck.
