I want to change my 1980 Custom Flareside to an XLT Ranger. What are the differences? I know that there is a woodgrain dash, XLT over the radio, Carpet, Headliner, XLT Ranger fender badges, and XLT cab badge. Anything else?
Also, were there factory tu-tone XLT Ranger Flaresides?
I believe there are some additional interior lights on the XLT. My 1980 Custom didn't have a glove box light or the under dash interior lights. I got the lights out of a XLT model in a junkyard, not sure what year it was from but now I can find stuff much better at night. I also got a gauge cluster with a tach from the same truck, my custom cluster did not have a tach.
Jdon88, I got a question for you. When you hooked up your tach, did you hook up all four connectors on the back, or just 3 of the 4? Does your truck have a 8 cylinder engine or 6 cylinder? I have a 1980 F100 custom, and had all 4 connectors connected to the tach, and now all of a sudden it doesn't work. Worked flawlessly for a few hours. Now it doesn't do anything. One of the 4 connectors is a ground and only needs to be connected when you have a 8 cylinder engine. Maybe I fried the tach by having that connected?
jdon88, I have a set of under dash lights I just picked up at the junkyard over the weekend. Did you have plugs for yours under the dash? Mine is an 86, I looked all over, even took off the kick panel, couldn't find anything.
Hey what a coincidence! I'm in the process of changing my interior of my 1980 F100 Custom over to an XLT. I believe that in addition to the stuff you mentioned, also the map pockets that go under your door panels, and perhaps there are power door locks and power windows as well (if you count that as being the interior)?
So far I put in a custom black carpet headliner in my truck with spray adhesive (looks great), a new black map light, and getting a woodgrain steering wheel, and woodgrain bezels, and going to get extra lighting under the dash and in my glove box as well. Should be easy, I've been to a salvage yard where they have a lot of Broncos with all the accessories. Shouldn't be too hard to pull out the wiring I need.
