91 explorer- grinding sound

91 explorer- grinding sound

have a 91 explorer. Wouldnt start- so i replaced the starter. Now, when it starts it a screeching, grinding sound. Replaced ignition switch tonite, still makes the sound. Any suggestions?

Sounds like it could be the gear on the starter meshing with the flywheel. Are you sure the starter is completely bolted in>

Some FOrd starters have 9 teeth & some have 10. Sounds like you got the wrong one.

thank you but found out alternator was shot
