I am looking to buy a F250 XLT Turbo diesel. Does anybody know why it is so difficult to find the turbo diesels in 6 speed?
Is the turbo diesel better suited for an auto transmission, or do people generally prefer the auto?
Thanks
The auto is easier to drive (lazy drivers like me), but the 6 speed is much stronger. The auto tranny is beefed up in the PSD over my V10's tranny, but it is still the weak link in the PSD system. My buddy has a PSD 6 speed and REALLY likes it. I drove it and it shifted very nice with 50,000 miles on it. He said it was just starting to break in.
My other buddy and my brother-in-law both have PSD auto's. Both religiously flush their systems and coolers, usually before the required peroid. My b-i-l does his @ 15,000 mile intervals (maybe overkill), but he drives fast and loaded (full utlilty bed w/ tools, wire, etc-very heavy), and pulls his heavy boat all over the place.
The PSD has so much torgue, it's hard on auto's. You might want to look out of your area for a stick where they are more popular (rural areas).
Automatics just sell better. I love my 6 speed. In a drag race the auto will win, as for towing, the 6 speed will outperform the auto. It's all preference. Buy what YOU want. If one dealer doesn't have it, another one will. There are many 6 speeds available here in Reno.
