I am not a smoker, but this topic is a “hot button” for all!
ABSOLUTELY do not go there !
My initial point was............if today 2004, if cigarettes were not invented, and i came along with this new product,[tobacco] and wanted to introduce it for public use.It would be evaluated and tested and found to cause serious health issues, cancer etc,it would be banned, but since it has been around for ages and big money is associated with tobacco thru lobbying and taxes, it is allowed.I am not getting on smokers, just the big picture.See?

Understand you point.............however
it is a hot button (smoking) .....................stop
Its ok for people to put down on Christians and God here on this site, but we sure dont want to offend smokers because they suffered enough from us non smokers,i mean with us forcing them to breath our clean air and all.
My way of thinking, whether it's tobacco, seatbelts, ephedra or alcohol, is let people do what they like, but the insurance companies should adjust their premiums accordingly.
Nobody should be able to tell you "you can't smoke" or "wear your seatbelt". BUT, the insurance company has every right to say "if you get into an accident without your seatbelt, then we'll drop you ASAP"
I think it's only fair.
I'm not worried about footing the bill for some smoker's lung problems; I'm sure that the insurance industry would find some other way to shaft us if there were no cigarettes.
Wow, addictions sure do take many forms. I am a smoker, and I'm very addicted. Sounds like individuals who are addicted to the Pig Pen can't shake their habit either.
I was not one for that forum, but if you feel the need to jump on "us " smokers, go ahead. Obviously, you have more rights (now) because you don't smoke.
Kinda glad I missed out on the P/P thing. In 2 or 3 posts in went from Ephedra, to smoking, to Putting down Christians and God!
Have a drink, flair up a good stogie, and relax. Its the weekend.....
Don't generally browse through this forum but have to mention some things on this one that I noticed
Ephedrine was banned for several reasons, one yes it was taking away from the prescription diet pills, and since it was nolonger under patent was too cheap.
number 2 truck drivers have been abusing this drug for years to stay awake and drive longer, this was noticed with the new HOS rules coming into effect, and during the time it was being discussed some people brought this up, and because of reason number 1 there wasn't any fight from big companies to not stop it, ( I personally did not use it and agree that truck drivers shouldn't use it but different reasons) this is where a very small minority of people have affected the lives of millions on a whim ie 125 members of a group called PATT forced a change in life, and income of some 2 million plus people, and it still aint good enough
next tobacco will not ever be banned as long as the goverment is allowed to tax it, and anything else for however much they want, think of it this way you aren't going to voluntarily cut your pay by 5% are you (and before any one jumps this I am a smoker)
Religon is attacked constantly because they donot pay taxes
And yes tylonel is the number one drug overdose seen in hospitals (replaced aspirin not to long ago) but not the number one reason for emergancy room visits just the number one abused drug.

Aplogize for misrepresenting you then. Hope I didn't offend you.
I didn't see mention of alcohol.
There are studies to prove that alcohol causes more deaths per year then cigarettes, but you don't see anybody suing the beer & liquor makers. To me it seems like everyone is targeting the smokers I was just trying to stand up for all us smokers who are feeling the brunt of that problem. And that is what I thought you were doing. Once again, I apoligize.

I would have to disagree with you. All the health risks & addiction to tobacco IN MY OPINION are from all the chemical that are spray in the tobacco fields & added at the plants.
If it were not for the chemicals, you would just be basically smoking a regular plant leaf.

You are absolutly correct.
I speak from experience of an ex-truck driver I did use ephedrine often after I found out I had a sleep disorder. Have you ever drove from Kansas City to Philly overnight? I have & was on ephedrine at the time. I'm not proud of it, but had to do what I had to do to support my wife & 3 kids let alone support myself on the road.
I no longer live that life no more, sold my truck & trailer in August & started working local trucking.

When I posted my first comment about the smoking I was not intending it to go in this direction. When I saw where it was beginning to go, I did not reply in case matters got worse.
