F-600

Where there any 4x4 F-600s actually built? I can noty find early models on the net. Going by the Ford manual on CD the axles exist. They look like 2 1/2 ton military axles.

I have seen four door crew cabs on the later models, did they exist on F-600s? Are they that very rare 4 door crew cab F-350 body transplanted to the F-600 frame?

Just wondering if I am wasting my time going for a F-600 crew cab 4x4 if it does not exist.

Hey there,

I'm not positive how many companies made 4x4 conversions back then, but there probably was one that would do a quad cab. I know of a standard cab 67 F600 4x4. It has a marmon herrington front axle and was a well drilling rig. I own a 59 chevy NAPCO 4x4 and NAPCO built all makes and sizes of 4x4 conversion kits up until around 1970. The thing to do would be find out if ford made an F-600 crew. If they did, all you have to do is find one and put a front axle and T-case in it. Also, from what I gather, most 1 ton and up chassis (no matter ford, chev, dodge) used the same front spring spacing and nearly same front suspension. You should be able to swap most any make front axle under the truck. The 67 F-600 4x4 has a passenger side front diff offset which looks very odd under a ford. The way I would do it would be to find any 67-72 crew cab truck. Buy a surplus 6x6 (they're surprisingly cheap) and mount the ford cab onto the 6x6 frame with F-600 front fenders. Probably have to lengthen 6x6 frame, but you get a 250 cummins diesel, great axles that parts are readily available for, a dump utility bed, massive winch and of course the crew cab.

Our 73 F600 Brush truck is a 4x4. I don't know if it was factory or not, but we've had it since new at our Firehouse.

I worked on the Trans Alaska Pipeline in 75-76. We hade bunches of 2 ton and 2 1/2 ton chevy and ford 4x4s. All were Marmon Herrington. I owned a 69 Ford F-350 conversion that was a Napco. All the early Ford 4x4 Pickups were converted by Coleman up until the late 50s. I am sure I have seen the 73-79 F-600 4x4 crew cab. I am not sure but would assume it was a conversion 4x4. I don't recall ever seeing the 67-72 F-600 crewcab but I saw a 60 model once.

I have seen 70s 4 door Crew Cab F-600s using the Internet, I just do not know if they are OEM C&C designs or aftermarket. I want a truck that can handle a cord of wood, but, double as a person hauler in a pinch and a F-600 seems to be the ticket if I want to stick to a Ford.

There is a F600 around here cheap, but, 2x4 and standard cab. I just want to try buying one all the way done, since it will probably be cheaper that way.

If you only want to haul a cord of wood an F-350 would do that easily. I have hauled many full cords of green birch on a light duty 3/4 ton.

A cord of green oak (which is what I mostly cut - white and water) tips the scales at 6,600-7,000 pounds. If there are F-350s rated for that, then I will start tracking one down. I thought the most they were rated for were 2 tons. Or from what I can make out from the factory CD/axle ratings.

If that was the main duty to haul 6000-7000 pounds then you are right to seek out an F-600. The heavy duty F-350s were rated at 10,000 GVW and the truck itself will weigh around 6000 I suppose. While the truck can easily go way over its rated GVW , to do that all the time will shorten it's life considerably. When I hauled full cords of green birch in my 3/4 ton she was grossly overloaded but I only needed to haul a few cords out of a permitted area or one other time I was buying a few cords. I was actually haling more than the GVW rating of the truck.

Yea, that is what I am trying to track down, a F-600 crew cab. Good snags! I have not found any yet <- 1978

re:4x4

I still do not know, since I still have not found a factory one. I see the disassembly in the factory CD of the hubs, hard to miss with the 1/4 wall square tubing. What I am thinking about is getting a crew cab F-600 and putting a 2 1/2 ton axle under the front with disk brakes.

I am currently the owner of a 1969 crew cab 4x4. It is a napco 4x4 system. We bought the truck in Minn from a guy who purchased it from an old iron mine.. We havent been able to find any others that are both crew cab and 4x4, but are looking for more info or any others that might be around!
