I have a '95 F250 4WD extended cab. Sometimes while making a right turn on a sharp grade, like into a higher parking lot, and less often when driving straight but going over speed bumps, etc, there is a heavy thud coming from behind me on the driver's side.
The sound is like something in the bed shifting against the side of the bed. Since that is obviously not happening, the sound must be coming from inside the body panels.
I've noticed this too, I haven't paid much attention to it. Considering I'm basically driving around a bus, I'm sure there'll be some flex in the frame and body. Unless it gets really bad I wouldn't worry about it.
I was having a similar noise on my 96 f-150! My problem was the frame bolts. After a few years the bolts on the frame loose their tightness which lets the frame give just a tiny bit and makes that annoying thudding noise! I took it to the shop and they just put new bolts..... BUT it is a few years later now and they have done the same thing! Hope this helps! OHhhh and they dont loosen up enough to cause any alarm for safety reasons!
I have a 01 f350 extended cab and its the body flexing where the doors meet you can try and silicone the weather stripping and adjust the door strikers alittle tighter. I siliconed my weather strips and it made a diference, but I havent adjusted my strikers yet.
after my body lift my truck started do the same thing... a retorque of teh body lift and the problem went away.... so i'd say more than likely your trucks body needs a retorque.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 16-Apr-02 AT 10:31 PM (EST)]Sorry guys this is another one of them problems ford has not adressed on the f250 yet ,the actual problem is the body mount itsef there is a thin rubber pancake type shim that goes between the body and mount and this is the fix, the shim you have now is most likly clear and the one you need according to my dealer is black it did help my 01 mine was popping and cracking so bad if you put the brake on or drove across a uneven surface it sounded somtimes over the radio, if you go to your dealer they know what you need.
