I was trying to think what all I would need (x-fer case, short driveshaft, etc) but wanted to hear from someone who has done it. It would be all DIY this summer if I did....but wanted to know the dirty stories first.
I got such a good deal on my X back in '98 and it is the best of shape (minus a possible bad MAF) and I hate to sell it just to get 4x4.
I think I get attached once I get a car to where I want it. I do not want to really screw up the tranny or something else that may new at doing and then have to sell it for less.
Thanks for the advice, if anyone else has horror stories they would make me feel better.
I don't think I am going to see a post that says: "oh it is real easy, just drop this and put in x-fer case and a new front drive axle and your done! took me around 4-5 hours to do"
If you get the same year X, lift the body and roll the 4x2 out and roll the 4x4 frame under your X body. This is what the dealers do to trucks with bad frames. It take about 2 to 3 days. then you have to work on wireing.
